🎡 Spin the Wheel
What it is
The Spin the Wheel tool is a fully customisable random wheel spinner. You add a list of options — names, items, tasks, or anything else — and the wheel selects one at random each time you spin. The wheel supports an unlimited number of entries, custom colours per segment, custom weighting, and participant photos.
How to use it
Select the Wheel tab at the top of the page.
Open the settings panel on the right and type your options into the list, or paste a newline-separated list all at once.
Optionally, switch to Advanced mode in the settings panel to set a custom colour and weight for each entry.
Click the large SPIN! button, or press the spacebar. The wheel accelerates and then decelerates naturally, landing on a random segment.
The winner is displayed in a popup. Click Continue to spin again without changing the list, or Remove winner (available in the settings) to automatically remove the winner and continue with the remaining options.
Advanced features
Custom weights: If you want one option to come up more frequently than others, increase its weight in Advanced mode. A weight of 2 means an option is twice as likely to be selected as one with weight 1. This is useful for tiered prize draws where different entry levels have different numbers of tickets.
Auto-spin timer: The countdown timer feature lets you set an automatic spin delay of 3, 5, 10, 15, or 30 seconds. Useful for live streams where you want to build anticipation before the result.
Fullscreen mode: Press the fullscreen button (or the F key) to enter a distraction-free view that hides the settings panel and navigation. The brand logo remains visible in the corner for screen recording and streaming contexts.
Session title: Add a title above the wheel to label your session — for example, "Week 3 Prize Draw" or "Team Lunch Vote". The title is encoded into the share URL.
Pro tip: If you want to demonstrate fairness to an audience, use the share URL to send participants a link to your exact wheel setup before spinning. They can verify the names and weights match what was advertised.
📋 List Picker
What it is
The List Picker is the fastest way to draw one or more random items from a list. It works with any kind of list — names, tasks, questions, prizes — and includes a dedicated raffle mode that draws without replacement, ensuring no entry can win twice.
How to use it
Select the List tab.
Your list from the Wheel tab carries over automatically. If you need a different list, edit the entries in the settings panel.
Click Pick to draw a single random winner. The winner is highlighted in the list.
For multiple draws, set the number of winners in the Pick N winners field before clicking Pick. All winners are drawn simultaneously from the full list.
Click Reset to clear the results and start fresh without changing the list.
Raffle mode
Raffle mode changes how the List Picker works: instead of drawing from the full list each time, it removes each winner from the pool before drawing the next. This guarantees that no name can be drawn twice — a requirement for any legitimate prize draw with multiple prizes.
To use raffle mode, set the number of winners to a number greater than 1. Each click of Pick draws the next winner in sequence. The list shrinks after each draw, and the History panel records every result.
Team split feature
The Teams button divides your list into a specified number of random teams. Enter the number of teams, click Generate, and the list is shuffled and divided as evenly as possible. This is useful for physical education classes, workshop breakout groups, and any activity that requires balanced random groupings.
Classroom tip: Keep a saved list of your students' names and use the List Picker at the start of each lesson to randomly select who answers the opening question. It takes under five seconds and immediately engages the whole class.
🃏 Grid Picker
What it is
The Grid Picker displays your list as a grid of face-down cards. Entries are hidden until a card is tapped or clicked, at which point the card flips to reveal the name or option. This adds a tactile, game-like element to random selection that is particularly engaging in live settings.
How to use it
Select the Grid tab.
Your current list is displayed as shuffled, face-down cards. The shuffle order is randomised each time you load the grid.
Click any card to flip it and reveal the entry beneath it.
Use the column selector to adjust how many columns the grid uses. More columns suits larger lists; fewer columns makes individual cards larger.
Click Reveal All to flip all remaining cards at once. Click Reset Cards to flip all cards back face-down and re-shuffle.
Teams mode
Enable Teams mode by setting the number of teams before clicking a card. As cards are revealed, they are assigned to teams in order — the first card goes to Team 1, the second to Team 2, and so on, cycling through the teams until all cards are assigned. The result is a fully randomised team draw with a visual, reveal-by-reveal format that audiences enjoy watching.
Event tip: For competitions and game shows, use the Grid Picker instead of drawing names from a hat. The card-flip animation is far more engaging on screen, and the randomisation is genuinely unpredictable.
🎲 Decision Maker
What it is
The Decision Maker handles three types of quick decisions: a yes/no coin flip, a standard dice roll (1–6), and a custom option spinner for any set of choices that don't fit the wheel format. All three use the same cryptographic randomness as the other tools.
Coin flip
Click the coin to flip it. The animation plays a realistic tumbling sequence before landing on heads or tails. The result is displayed clearly with a large label. The flip history tracks recent results — useful for spotting any perceived bias (there is none, but people often want reassurance).
Dice roll
Click the dice to roll a standard six-sided die. The face updates to show the result. If you need to roll multiple dice — for board games, for example — you can roll in quick succession; each roll is independent.
Custom decision
For decisions that don't fit a coin or die, the custom mode lets you enter any number of options and picks one at random with a single click. Unlike the wheel, there is no animation — the result is instant. This is the fastest way to pick from a short list when you don't need the visual theatre of the spinning wheel.
Meeting tip: For meetings with rotating facilitators, add team members' names to the custom decision tool. Click once to pick who runs the next retrospective, stand-up, or planning session. It takes less than 10 seconds and removes any perception of favouritism.
🔗 Sharing and saving setups
Every wheel configuration — including the list of options, their colours, weights, and the session title — can be encoded into a URL. Click the share icon to generate the link. Anyone with the link will load the exact same wheel you created.
Share links can be bookmarked and reused indefinitely. If you run a weekly classroom activity or a monthly team raffle, bookmark the link once and open it each time. The wheel will be pre-loaded with all your settings.
Share links work across devices. A wheel you configure on your laptop can be opened on a mobile phone or tablet through the same URL, with the full configuration intact.
There is no account required to create or use a share link. The configuration is stored entirely in the URL itself — no data is saved on any server.
Frequently asked questions
Is PickerToolbox really free?
Yes, completely free. All four tools are available without charge, without a subscription, and without a limit on how many times you can use them. The site is supported by advertising.
Do I need to create an account?
No. There are no accounts on PickerToolbox. You can use every tool immediately, without providing an email address or any personal information.
How many names can I add to the wheel?
There is no hard limit. In practice, wheels with more than 100 segments become visually crowded, so the List Picker is better suited to very large lists. The wheel works well with up to around 50 options.
Is the randomness truly fair?
Yes. PickerToolbox uses window.crypto.getRandomValues(), the Web Cryptography API, for all random selections. This produces cryptographically secure random numbers derived from your operating system's entropy source — the same standard used in security software, not the weaker Math.random() that most random tools rely on.
Does it work offline?
After the first load, PickerToolbox can be installed as a Progressive Web App (PWA) and will continue to work without an internet connection. On Android, look for the "Add to Home Screen" prompt. On iOS, use Safari's Share menu and select "Add to Home Screen". Once installed, the app caches itself and all four tools work offline.
Can I remove a winner from the wheel automatically?
Yes. In the settings panel, enable the "Remove winner after spin" option. After each spin, the winning segment is removed from the wheel, so it cannot be selected again. This is useful for running sequential draws where you want to work through a list in random order.
Does PickerToolbox save my list between sessions?
Your last-used list is saved in your browser's local storage, so it will still be there when you next open the app on the same device. This data never leaves your browser. You can clear it at any time by clearing your browser's site data for pickertoolbox.com.
Can I use PickerToolbox on mobile?
Yes. The app is fully responsive and works on all modern smartphones and tablets. The bottom navigation bar replaces the desktop tab bar on small screens. The wheel, list, grid, and decision tools all work with touch input. You can install it as a PWA from your mobile browser for the best experience.
I found a bug — how do I report it?
Please contact us with a description of what happened, which tool was affected, and what browser and device you were using. We aim to respond within two business days.
