    How to Use the Random Name Picker & Wheel Spinner

    🎡 Spin the Wheel — Random Wheel Spinner

    How it works

    Type your options into the settings panel on the right, or paste a newline-separated list all at once. Each entry becomes a colour-coded segment on the wheel. Click the large SPIN! button (or press the spacebar) and the wheel accelerates, then decelerates naturally using a physics-based easing function. The wheel always comes to rest in a visually convincing way — no abrupt stops, no obvious biases toward any position.

    In Advanced mode, you can assign a custom colour, a numeric weight, and even a photo to each entry. A weight of 2 means that entry is twice as likely to be selected as one with the default weight of 1 — useful for tiered competitions where some entrants have more tickets than others. After each spin, the winner is shown in a popup. You can continue with the same wheel, or enable the "remove winner" option to automatically shrink the wheel with each draw.

    The countdown timer feature lets you set an automatic spin delay of up to 30 seconds — ideal for live streams where you want to build anticipation. Fullscreen mode hides all navigation so the wheel fills the screen during screen shares and recordings.

    Why it is better than alternatives

    Most free wheel spinners — including the popular "Wheel of Names" and similar tools — use JavaScript's Math.random() function, which is a pseudo-random number generator. Its output follows a deterministic sequence that can be predicted if you know the internal seed.     📋 List Picker — Random Name Picker from a List

    How it works

    The List Picker takes the same list of names or items used by the wheel and lets you draw from it without the visual animation. Click Pick to select one random winner instantly. To draw multiple winners at once, set the number of picks before clicking — all winners are drawn simultaneously, so no name can appear twice in a single multi-draw.

    Raffle mode changes the behaviour for sequential draws: each time you click Pick, one winner is drawn and removed from the pool before the next draw. This guarantees no repeat winners across a multi-prize draw, making it compliant with the expectations of a legitimate raffle. Every result is logged in the History panel, giving you a permanent record of the session.

    The Teams feature divides the full list into a specified number of random groups. The list is shuffled using the same cryptographic randomness and split as evenly as possible across the teams. This is used widely in physical education classes, workshop breakout sessions, and group project assignments.

    Why it is better than alternatives

    Generic tools like random.org offer a number generator but require you to manually map numbers back to names. Spreadsheet random-selection formulas use RAND(), which recalculates on every keystroke and requires you to freeze results manually to prevent them from changing.     🃏 Grid Picker — Random Card Reveal

    How it works

    The Grid Picker displays your list as a grid of face-down cards shuffled in a random order. Each card shows only a neutral back until it is clicked or tapped, at which point it flips to reveal the entry. You control how many columns the grid uses — more columns for large lists, fewer for a more dramatic individual reveal. The Reveal All button flips all remaining cards simultaneously; Reset Cards shuffles and hides them all again.

    In Teams mode, cards are assigned to teams as they are revealed. The first click goes to Team 1, the second to Team 2, and so on in a cycling pattern until all cards are distributed. The result is a fully randomised team draw carried out one reveal at a time, which audiences find significantly more engaging than reading out a pre-generated list.

    Why it is better than alternatives

    Drawing names from a physical hat works, but it cannot be verified by a remote audience, it requires physical materials, and it cannot be replicated or shared. The Grid Picker provides the same element of surprise as a physical draw while being transparent — the audience can see that the cards were randomised before any flips, and the result can be shared via URL. For online classrooms and remote teams specifically, a screen-shared card reveal is far more engaging than reading names from a list.

    🎲 Decision Maker — Coin Flip, Dice Roll & Custom Picker

    How it works

    The Decision Maker covers three scenarios. The coin flip produces a heads or tails result with a realistic animated tumble — click the coin to flip it. The dice roller produces a number from 1 to 6 with a corresponding face display. For decisions that require more than two outcomes but don't warrant a full wheel setup, the custom option mode lets you enter any set of choices and selects one at random instantly, without animation.

    All three modes use the same crypto.getRandomValues randomness as the other tools. The result history tracks recent outcomes so you can review the sequence of flips or rolls — useful in game contexts where keeping a record matters.

    Why it is better than alternatives

    A physical coin flip is genuinely random, but it cannot be replicated in a remote meeting, it requires you to be in the same room, and the result disappears the moment the coin is caught. A digital coin flip that uses weak pseudo-randomness is arguably worse than a physical flip, because it has the appearance of fairness without the substance.
