How to use PickerToolbox as a birthday wheel

PickerToolbox runs entirely in your browser — no account, no app to download, and nothing saved to a server. Here is how to set it up for a birthday party, step by step.

Step 1 — Open the wheel spinner

Go to pickertoolbox.com and make sure the Wheel tab is selected at the top. The wheel is the default tool, so it is usually already active when the page loads. On a phone or tablet, open it in any browser — the wheel works on all screen sizes.

Step 2 — Add your entries

In the settings panel (on the right side on desktop, or accessible via the settings icon on mobile), type each entry on its own line. For a party game wheel, this might be game names, guest names, forfeit ideas, or prize options. You can also paste a full list at once using the paste icon — each line becomes one segment on the wheel.

Step 3 — Spin

Click the large SPIN! button or press the spacebar. The wheel accelerates, then decelerates naturally. The result pops up on screen when the wheel stops — easy to read from across the room. If you are hosting a prize draw, you can project the wheel on a TV or laptop so all guests can see the spin.

Step 4 — Remove the winner and spin again

For prize draws or turn-based games where the same person should not be picked twice, enable the Remove winner option in the settings panel. Each winning entry is automatically removed from the wheel after it is drawn, so you can keep spinning until everyone has had a turn — or until all prizes are awarded.

Step 5 — Set up the countdown timer for drama

Click the clock icon on the wheel to set an automatic spin delay. Choose a countdown from 3 to 30 seconds, then click Start — the wheel spins on its own after the timer runs out. This works well for birthday party moments where you want to build anticipation before the result appears.

Step 6 — Bookmark your wheel for reuse

Use the Share button to encode your full wheel setup into the URL. Save that URL as a bookmark or share it with a co-host. Anyone who opens the link sees the exact same wheel — no account needed. Set up separate wheels for different games (prize draw, truth or dare, forfeit wheel) and switch between them during the party using your saved bookmarks.

Running a birthday prize draw

Prize draws are the most popular birthday wheel use — every guest gets a fair shot and watching the wheel slow down to reveal the winner is genuinely exciting. The process is simple: add all attending guests' names, spin once per prize. Enable Remove after pick if you have multiple prizes and want to guarantee different winners for each one.

For kids' parties with multiple prizes and lots of guests, the list picker (under the List tab) works well too — it shows all names clearly, picks one at random, and you can remove names as prizes are awarded. The visual is simpler but easier to see from across the room on a large phone or tablet screen.

Truth or dare with a wheel spinner

The wheel adds structure and fairness to truth or dare — instead of players choosing between truth and dare themselves, the wheel decides. Set up two separate wheels (or use the weighted wheel to split the segments): one for truths and one for dares. Spin the wheel to pick which type, then spin again to get the specific question or challenge.

For younger birthday parties, keep the dares physical and lighthearted — dance moves, impressions, silly tasks. For teen or adult parties, scale up the challenges accordingly.
