How to Use the Random Name Picker & Wheel Spinner

PickerToolbox gives you four free, browser-based randomisation tools — no sign-up, no downloads, and nothing saved to a server. Select a tool from the tab bar at the top, add your options, and pick. Every result uses crypto.getRandomValues — the same cryptographic randomness used in security certificates, not the weaker pseudo-random sequences most online pickers rely on.

    🎡 Spin the Wheel

    Option by option

Entries panel: Type your options one per line, or use the paste icon to paste a newline-separated list all at once. Each entry becomes a colour-coded segment on the wheel. There is no entry limit.

SPIN! button: Click it or press Space to spin. The wheel uses physics-based easing — it accelerates, then decelerates naturally to a convincing stop. The winning segment is shown in a popup when the wheel comes to rest.

Countdown timer (clock icon): Set an automatic spin delay of 3–30 seconds. Click Start to begin the countdown, then the wheel spins on its own. Ideal for livestreams where you want visible anticipation before the result.

Advanced mode (per entry): Assign a custom colour, numeric weight, and photo to each entry. A weight of 2 makes that entry twice as likely to win as a default weight-1 entry — useful for tiered giveaways where some participants hold more than one ticket.

Remove winner option: When on, the winning entry is automatically removed from the wheel after each spin. Use it for multi-prize draws where no one should win twice.

Share button: Encodes your full wheel config into the URL. Anyone with that link opens the exact same wheel — no account needed.

Why it is better than alternatives

Most free wheel spinners use JavaScript's Math.random() — a deterministic pseudo-random generator. PickerToolbox uses the Web Cryptography API instead. Unlike competitors that have paywalled features like removing winners or adding unlimited entries, everything on PickerToolbox is free.

    📋 List Picker

    Option by option

Pick button: Draws one random winner instantly from your list. The selected name is highlighted.

Pick N winner(s) field: Change the number to draw multiple winners at once. All are selected simultaneously — no name can appear twice in a single multi-draw.

Raffle mode (in settings): Switches to sequential draws. Each Pick removes the current winner before the next draw, guaranteeing no repeat winners across multiple picks. Every result is logged in the History panel.

Teams button: Enter the number of teams and click Generate — the list is shuffled and split as evenly as possible. Useful for classroom breakouts and group assignments.

Reset button: Restores all eliminated names and clears the history for this session.

Why it is better than alternatives

Random.org gives you numbers you must manually map to names. Spreadsheet RAND() formulas re-roll on every keystroke. The List Picker handles the full workflow — paste, pick, done — in under five seconds.

    🃏 Grid Picker

    Option by option

Columns dropdown: Sets how many card columns are shown (2–6). Fewer columns for a dramatic one-by-one reveal; more to display all entries on screen at once.

Teams mode field: Enter the number of teams. Cards are assigned in rotation as each is revealed — first flip to Team 1, second to Team 2, and so on. Set to 0 to disable.

Cards (click each to flip): Cards start face-down in a randomised order. Click to reveal. The Reveal All button flips all remaining cards at once; Reset Cards reshuffles and hides them again.

Why it is better than alternatives

A physical hat draw can't be verified remotely or shared via URL. The Grid Picker gives audiences the same surprise while being fully transparent — the shuffle happens before any flip — and the card-reveal format creates genuine anticipation on screen.

    🎲 Decision Maker

    Option by option

Yes / No tab: Click (or press Space) for an instant yes or no — genuine 50/50 cryptographic randomness.

Coin Flip tab: Click the coin to flip it. Shows heads or tails with animation.

Dice tab: Rolls a standard D6. Displays the face value from 1 to 6.

Custom tab: Enter any options (one per line) and click to pick one instantly — no animation, no setup. Fastest option for quick decisions in meetings.

Why it is better than alternatives

A physical coin can't be used in a remote meeting, and a digital flip using weak randomness has the appearance of fairness without the substance. PickerToolbox's Decision Maker uses the same OS-level entropy source as every other tool on the site.

    100% Private & Browser-Based

All processing happens locally in your browser. The names and options you type are never transmitted to a server, never stored in a database, and never seen by anyone but you. Closing the tab clears everything from memory. Your last-used list is saved in browser local storage so it is still there when you return — but this data never leaves your device.
